05-06-05 friday 9:15pm not the girl with her head down. her hands covering her face. like a glass tilted too far. its contents just about to spill out. not that girl. no, tonight you're someone else. a lion purring with a kitten's heart. not then that i knew. with the foolish blase of a poet's prescience. not when she knelt down beside herself. asking her own forgiveness. but when she stood up demanding. so sure that she deserved it. not that picture with its temperamental angst. white folds flowing down from her lap like teardrops down from swollen eyes. not bent over in that chair. elbows perched upon tender thighs. to prop up that heavy head. not that girl. no, tonight you're someone else. everything you want to be. everything i know you are, but you don't believe. everything you think you see in me. you're really only seeing yourself. 05-06-05 friday 11:20pm in the hour of your enthusiasm is where i see your lacking
more than ever. balloon all puffed up with helium. in those conversations we sequester nothing comes of, but it tries to. bleached out denim hearts wear their frayed edges like a fashion statement. until others will follow and mark their discontent. close becomes the words we choose. as life cross examines, the witness stutters. the story is not untrue. just embellished. what would you have me do, if i could do anything to you. are words enough for you. because i want more. though i dare not expect that much. it's not over, but it's done. how well those moments persecute themselves. victims of what we're to afraid to want. don your mask. it suits you. all those masks we wear wearing us as they do. there are skins and then there's flesh. and now they're asking us to choose. there's touched and there's felt. which are you? |
