5-29-03 9:10pm brick NJ thursday
ink stained fingers,
salty lips still
waiting on a kiss;
you knew everything
until just this moment,
then suddenly and
without recourse
you knew nothing.
i once would imbibe
your pleasures like
a cool drink,
i used to let you linger
on my flesh like
a stalwart shadow
on the brim of sunset;
heavy lives bloated with
the consequences of,
glow in the dark eyes
lure me toward,
but toward what?
yellow fever dreams
sweat their needs;
pneumonia hearts
cough their disease;
i can't remember,
but i haven't forgotten,
it's just a question of when
life will happen again
to replace what almost was
with the nothing.
